Recovery and Rejuvenation

Why cleanse? The diversity and quantity of biochemical toxins found in the bodies of almost all Americans are shocking. Literally tens of thousands of man-made chemicals can be found. A very short list includes: lead, mercury, DDT and many other pesticides, PCBs, and perchlorate (a toxic component of rocket fuel). Many toxins originate in all kinds of household products and include chemicals from plastics, flame retardants, cigarette smoke, carpets, and plywood glues. Outside, we are exposed to exhaust fumes along with the byproducts that escape our factories. Besides the toxins we breathe, eat or drink, there are many that are created in our own bodies everyday that are poisonous and need to be processed.

The problem is that our bodies’ detoxification systems can only do so much in a 24-hour period, if they are fully functional in the first place. When we can’t process all the chemicals, they are stored in many different cells of our bodies, especially fat cells. Some of these chemicals pose well-documented disease risks. For others, there is much more research to be done. Most, if not all, of these chemicals can be found in each and every one of us.

The seasonal solution to this problem is a 7–14 day cleanse (length of time varies depending on the individual). A cleanse will support your body’s detoxification pathways, decreasing your toxic burden. This is also an excellent way of interrupting any bad dietary habits that have developed over time, and for most people will result in some weight loss.

The cleanse is quite simple. It involves replacing two meals a day with a drink that is specifically designed to support your detoxification pathways and “cleanse” your body of biochemical toxins, and at the same time serve as a meal. Your third meal is a feast of very healthy foods. Snacking on fresh fruits and raw veggies between meals is fine.
